About Michael
Michael was born and raised in East Somerville. Although this is his first time running for public office, he’s no stranger to public service. His father Sal, a public school teacher, Somerville Alderman, and State Senator was a maverick voice for political reform and progressive policy. Michael’s involvement in politics began as a kid, going door to door with his father and listening to people’s stories.
In 1980 as a college freshman, Michael volunteered for the Ted Kennedy for president campaign in Vermont and New Hampshire. After a summer at the Kennedy School of Government, Michael joined the consulting firm Campaign Strategies, Inc., in NYC then returned to Boston in 1984 to run his father’s first successful campaign for State Senate. Michael has been in the trenches of progressive politics throughout his life, helping to elect Senators Pat Jehlen, Sonia Chang-Diaz, Jamie Eldridge, Governor Deval Patrick, New Hampshire Congressman Paul Hodes, City Councilor Roseann Bongiovanni, and President Obama.
Michael moved to Chelsea fifteen years ago and has been an outspoken voice for progressive politics. His civic involvement includes membership on both the Chelsea Planning Board (‘02-‘07) where he served as Chairman from (‘04-‘07) and the Chelsea Collaborative (‘02-‘07) where he sat on the Board of Directors.
In 2004, Michael started his own small business where he currently works helping people find homes in the greater Boston area. He lives with his wife Eden, an editor who has worked professionally in children’s book publishing in Boston for several years.
